Animas - float trips
Durango

Animas Valley downstream to New Mexico

Bookings & Rates

TROUT AS LONG AS YOUR LEG

Animas River fly fishing float trips are a lot of fun with the opportunity at an Animas River monster.

The River

The Animas is a large-ish river with the first 14 miles of floatable waters meandering slowly through the Animas Valley. Once the river reaches Durango the gradient increases making numerous rapids, boulder fields, riffles, pockets, runs and short pools.

Durango public waters including the Gold Medal section and private waters south of town. We also offer a special lower river float that starts above the Southern Ute boundary and ends a few miles into New Mexico. (Only a Southern Ute can guide the Southern Ute Waters). We have exclusive and shared put-ins and take-outs, along with exclusive private land access where we can also wade fish and enjoy a stream-side lunch.

River Miles

Full day trips will typically cover 6 to 12 miles of river. Half day and evening trips will cover 3 to 6 miles depending on flows and conditions. We fish the Animas in decked out fly fishing specific rafts or drift boats.

The Trout

Browns and rainbows are the primary species that live in the Animas. The size range of trout in the Animas is wide open any given cast gives you the opportunity for an 8-inch dink or a 30-inch fish of a lifetime. You just never know who's going to latch on!

Our Guide Program

We offer guided floats on nearly 40 miles of the Animas. Guide days start any where from north of Durango and we can float as far down as New Mexico.

Where to stay?

Many of our fishing guests stay in Durango or any neighboring town. Durango is full of hotels, motels, VRBOs, and B & Bs.

The Day

Most guide days meet around 7:30 to 9 AM depending on meet location. Depending on when we launch we fish all day finishing up around 3, 4 or 5 in the evening.

The Season

The window of float opportunity for the Animas depends on snowpack, but typically the float season starts in March or April and can last through the fall.

Getting There

Durango is pretty much a hub for all your fly fishing in southwest Colorado. Durango is about 8 hours from Denver and 4 hours from Albuquerque.
